Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR)
Partnerships for Health System Improvement (PHSI) Program

CIHR’s Partnerships for Health System Improvement supports teams of researchers and decision makers interested in conducting applied health research useful to health system managers and or policy makers over the next two-to-five years.

PHSI teams can now apply for up to $500,000 per grant (including CIHR and partnership funding) for a maximum of three years. Partner support in Manitoba must be 20 per cent (up to $100,000). In-kind contributions are recognized, especially where they reflect meaningful collaboration that will increase the likely success of the project.

Eligibility

The following eligibility criteria apply to MHRC support:

  1. A Manitoba researcher or decision maker must be the principal or co-principal investigator.
  2. The funds provided by MHRC must be used in Manitoba or demonstratively benefit Manitobans.
  3. Includes policy makers on the team
  4. Has approval of at least one of the following people:
    • CEO of a Regional Health Authority, or designate
    • Deputy Minister of Manitoba Health, or designate

Application

Researchers interested in being considered for MHRC support for the July 2009 PHSI launch must submit a detailed letter of request, including all pertinent proposal information (e.g. summary, budget, other funding requests to be made, etc.), to MHRC by September 15, 2009 in order to receive the necessary documentation to include with their full application. Additional information will be available on the MHRC web site regarding subsequent competitions.
