| Ms Christina Weise, Executive Director |
| Christina Weise is the Executive Director of the Manitoba Health Research Council. She has a Master’s degree in public administration from the University of Manitoba. She is a public administrator with more than 10 years of experience developing and implementing public policy in the areas of research and innovation and in managing funds and programs to support research. Just prior to joining MHRC, Christina was with the Manitoba Department of Innovation, Energy and Mines as Director, Research and Innovation Policy where she oversaw the administration of over $20 million to support research in Manitoba. Ms Weise also has extensive experience in strategic planning, working with boards and sustaining strong relationships with partners and stakeholders in the health research community. | |
| Dr. Jim Davie, Scientific Director |
| Jim Davie received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of British Columbia. His post-doctoral training in the area of chromatin structure and function was done in the lab of Dr. Ken van Holde at Oregon State University. Dr. Davie is presently the Scientific Director of the Manitoba Health Research Council, Leader of the Terry Fox Research Institute Prairie Node, and Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Medical Genetics at the University of Manitoba. He serves on several Editorial Boards of journals publishing in Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology and is Editor of the journal Biochemistry and Cell Biology. He has served as a Chair and panel member on CIHR and NCIC Peer Review Committees. His research interests include epigenetic regulation of gene expression in normal and cancer cells, nuclear matrix structure and function, sub-cellular trafficking of transcription factors and chromatin remodeling complexes, signal transduction pathways, chromatin structure and function, and biomarkers in the early detection of cancer. He currently holds a Canada Research Chair in Chromatin Dynamics (Tier 1). | |
| Ms Shannon Rogalski, Manager, Funding Programs |
| Shannon graduated with a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Manitoba in 2000 and started her career as a policy analyst with Western Economic Diversification in Ottawa, and then with the federal department’s headquarters in Edmonton. In 2002, Shannon moved on to the Province of Alberta and worked as a grant policy analyst for the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing. She joined the MHRC in January 08. | |
| Ms Liz C. Ford, Administrative Officer |
| Liz has worked for the Manitoba Health Research Council for over 15 years in administrative support including grants coordination, office management and financial officer. She continues to assume increasing responsibilities in support of Council. Her training in management at the Banff Centre School of Management and completion of the University of Manitoba certificate in Public Sector Management provides the qualifications and skills for this position. Her previous employment included coordinating the Artists in the Schools granting program for the Manitoba Arts Council, office manager for the Arts Administration Centre and Assistant Accountant for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. | |
| Mr. Ambrosio P. Catalla Jr, Evaluation and Policy Analyst |
| The Evaluation & Policy Analyst is a brand new position for MHRC, and has the exciting task of developing an evaluation framework for the Council – our programs and our strategic plan. While new to the area of health research outcomes, Ambrosio P. Catalla Jr has over 15 years of experience designing, coordinating and conducting surveys, assessments and evaluation studies in the Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar. He also has extensive experience leading impact evaluation studies for organizations and projects and in developing and using indicators to assess program and organizational outcomes. | |
| Ms Kristen Hooper, Communications Officer |
| Kristen joined MHRC in August 2008 as an administrative assistant. However, over the years her role has evolved into communications and administration. In her role as Communications Officer, Kristen is responsible for MHRC’s communication activities, including media and stakeholder relations, competition communications, producing promotional materials and maintaining the organization’s web presence. She also provides administrative support to the Executive Director and for the MHRC in general. Kristen will complete her Public Relations diploma from the University of Winnipeg in June 2011. She also has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology from the University of Winnipeg. | |
| Ms Lesley McKenzie, Administrative Assistant, Funding Programs |
| Lesley took up the newly created position Administrative Assistant, Funding Programs in the fall of 2011. She will be providing administrative support to the Manager, Funding Programs, and to the funding competition cycle throughout the year. She will also be managing MHRC records and helping out as needed throughout the organization. Lesley has supported research and education programs in a variety of roles at the University of Manitoba for over 15 years, most recently in the Faculty of Medicine. | |
